The Grounds of My School

I had the privilege of illustrating a book to be used in an educational centre based in Kaolack, Senegal, called Diapalante. The aim was to work with the members of the centre to create basic language learning books that told stories in a context they would be familiar with. “The Grounds of My School” was a story written by one of the centre’s members, Mariane Tavarez about the main school in Kaolack and was translated into English, French, and Wolof. The illustration style was completely open and so, using the reference photos I was provided with, I tried to inject some colours to engage the young people at the school.
